Overview
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Argonne National Labs and supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, EVoke Systems has successfully deployed its advanced Managed Charging APIs at Barclays Capital’s campus. This project demonstrates how intelligent software can optimize EV charging operations while preparing for renewable energy integration.
The Challenge
The Barclays campus previously experienced a daily EV charging load exceeding 500 kW, creating strain on the local grid. This high demand, combined with plans for future solar integration, required an innovative solution that could balance current needs while preparing for a renewable energy future.
EVoke’s managed charging platform has transformed our approach to EV infrastructure, enabling us to accommodate our growing EV fleet while significantly reducing our peak energy demand.
Solution Highlights

Advanced Load Management
EVoke’s Smart Charging APIs achieved a remarkable 200 kW reduction in daily charging load through dynamic scheduling based on grid conditions and driver preferences.

Standards Compliance
The implementation conforms to IEEE 2030.13 and OpenADR 3, setting a benchmark for industry-standard EV managed charging solutions with maximum interoperability.

Solar PV Integration
The system is designed to integrate with a planned 1.4 MW solar array, enabling precise synchronization of EV charging with renewable energy generation.
Results and Benefits

Grid Optimization
40% reduction in peak charging load has significantly alleviated stress on the local electricity grid and enhanced overall stability.

Cost Reduction
Optimized energy usage and reduced peak demand have translated into meaningful operational savings.

Sustainability Advancement
The framework for renewable energy integration positions Barclays as a leader in sustainable transportation infrastructure.
